WP Auctions v5.0 added the ability to allow your Subscribers to host auctions on your site. This feature is turned on by default and understandably you, as an admin, may not want to offer that feature to your users.

No problem.

Here’s a step by step process to amend this:

  1. Install this plugin: User Role Editor
  2. Go to the Users > User Role Editor admin panel and select the Subscriber role to edit.
  3. Scroll down to see the “Custom capabilities” and you will notice a checkbox that states ‘create_auction‘.
  4. You can select or deselect this checkbox depending on whether or not you want to allow your users to host auctions on your site.

Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like –

Hope that helps you get set up with the plugin faster while not needing a feature right away.

Just wondering if the wp auctions plug in would be safe and/or suitable for a auction website that is hosting only subscriber auctions. Just wondering how customizable it is as far as visuals and layout. I am in the very early stages of starting a website. As in, just thinking about my options. I am limited in time because of work and young family. Thanks.

In theory yes you can use the plugin to allow your subscribers to host their own auctions. The layout is not customizable via a backend system, it would require extensive knowledge of CSS/HTML to change it in the core code. Editing any code invalidates our support for the plugin as a whole though.

The option to allow subscribers the option to host auctions is fairly new on our product and is still being actively developed. You can expect it to get better in the future with features like listing fees, layout options, percentage fees, feedback system etc… So you might face some feature limitations presently in that regard.
