Another month, another release. This time we’ve got some small updates to the plugin that are slowly taking us forward to a big release we have planned later this year.

Here’s what’s new in v4.4.3.2:

Corrected “Cancel Last Bid”: Some people reported a bug with the Cancel Last Bid link deleting the wrong bid. This has now been fixed.

New message type added: Now bidders get email confirmations when they place a bid. You can customize this email too from the Email Settings tab.

Handle categories with “&”: Auction categories don’t throw a fit if you put a & in them.

Show maximum bid amount in admin area: This is an experimental feature, which means it might/might not stay, so let us know what you think about it.

Added option to show/hide custom contact: You can now hide/show and customize the default URL field. Don’t need it? No problem, just hide it!

Set login redirection target to current page: Bidders are now redirected back to the same page they were on before. The popup Register and Login links will take you back to the home page though.

That’s it for now.

To Infinity and Beyond…

I’ve already started working on a new design for the auction layout. This time we’re going modular, which means you can add/remove auction details as you see fit. The sidebar widget is getting re-designed too, as is the auction embed.

In fact, we’re just re-doing the entire plugin. It’s going to be an amazing next couple of months.

Watch this blog for updates.

Update Instructions

As always, we recommend you to upgrade via FTP. You can find more instructions for upgrading on our documentation page.

Current Version: 4.4.3.2

Update Status: Non-critical

Download WP Auctions

Members can download the latest version from their member area on Weborithm Products.

Instant Download buyers can upgrade by using the coupon code available on their main WP Auctions admin panel.

We’ve just tested and put out v4.4.2 of WP Auctions which is compatible with WordPress 3.5.

If you are using v4.4.1 with 3.5 don’t panic, it’ll still work. You might see a “wpdb()::prepare” error when you add/edit auctions, this is just a minor inconvenience till you upgrade, but will not affect the addition or editing of your auctions. Nor will it affect how the auctions function to your bidders.

What’s new v4.4.2?

Apart from compatibility with WordPress 3.5, v4.4.2 also supports better image handling, to coincide with the overall improvement in WordPress media management.

Images uploaded are now saved in your uploads/ folder and visible via your Media admin panel.

Some users may find that if they upload big images (in file size) it may take longer than usual to add an auction. This will only be a one time delay as the images get uploaded and re-sized for use in the auctions.

The best part?

There is no “files/” folder anymore and you need not CHMOD it!! A huge improvement to our overall drive to improve security with WP Auctions.

Update Instructions

As always, we recommend you to upgrade via FTP. You can find more instructions for upgrading on our documentation page.

Current Version: 4.4.2

Update Status: Semi-critical, if you are running WP v3.5

Hot on the wheels of our latest release, v4.4, we decided to make a video to show you in detail how one of our new incredible feature “Request to Bid” works.

Request to Bid

The feature provides you an extra layer of security to your auctions, so you can be sure of who is bidding on your site. Here’s a full breakdown of what you can do with it enabled:

Allow auto-approvals, you can also deny users later.

Approve/Deny users in an instant.

Sort by Status/Auction/User.

Clear bidders for closed auctions.

“Approved Bidders” number shown when auctions are embedded.

We hope you enjoy using the feature, please offer any feedback you have so that we can make the plugin better for you!

We’re happy to announce the latest version of WP Auctions is now available for download!

What’s HOT in v4.4?

Request to Bid: An amazing new feature which gives you the ability to restrict who can and cannot bid on your auctions! To activate this, you must enable the “Registered Users Only Mode” to limit auction bidding to registered users only.

Once you’ve done that you can add another layer of security to your auctions by enabling the feature to allow only bidders authorized by you to bid on any auction.

Every registered user will now have to submit a “Request to Bid” when they visit the “Bid” tab. You can then view their request in the special “Manage Bidders” admin panel. There’s still a lot more to the feature, you’ll just have to check it out for yourself once you buy the plugin!

Other Features:

Integrated full set of currencies offered by PayPal.

Set your Minimum Bid Increment on a global or per auction level.

Choose to receive bid notices or auction won emails, or both.

Allow proxy bidders to increase max bid (thanks to mensmaximus).

Use your own CSS stylesheet to alter the way the auction looks. (you will really need to know what you’re doing here)

Enhancements/Fixes:

Fixed a GoDaddy server specific email issue.

Dates and time now follow WP settings (thanks to mensmaximus).

Deprecate resizer, images are now handled by WordPress image resizer.

Added a CSS class “wpa-auction-sold” to closed auctions, used only when auctions are embedded in a Post/Page.

Display an “Auction Closed” notice once an auction is closed, used only when auctions are embedded in a Post/Page.

Update Instructions

As always, we recommend you to upgrade via FTP. You can find more instructions for upgrading on our documentation page.

Current Version: 4.4

Update Status: Non-critical (but completely worth it)

Download WP Auctions

Members can download the latest version from their member area on Weborithm Products.

We’re happy to announce that WP Auctions has hit 30,000 downloads on WordPress.org. This is the free version we make available to everyone, which by itself enable its user to auction off their item with the most necessary of features available.

It was a couple of years ago that we uploaded the plugin to the site and while it did take a while, we see downloads measuring just under 200 – 250 per week on average. To think we don’t really market the plugin much, it’s been doing good chugging along on its own!

If you’ve ever used the free version on your site do tell us your site so we can take a look!

Can anyone guess how fast we’ll hit 100,000 downloads?

Back when we launched WP Auctions, over 4 years ago, we had humble thoughts in mind and an itch too achieve awesomeness. The list of features we have today don’t even compare to what we started off with, and what we have in mind for the near future.

One step towards making our plugin do more as we grow is by building add-ons for it. The same way as how WordPress has themes and plugins to help extend it further for various uses.

I’m happy to announce that we’ve started that process and the WP Auctions Marketplace is now live!

What Is The WP Auctions Marketplace?

WP Auctions is a great standalone product, one that allows anyone to auction off anything they want on their own WordPress powered blog or website. Our official add-ons, List Widget and Bulk Upload, are an example. The Marketplace add-ons/themes will be no different, except that they will be released by 3rd party developers (unless otherwise noted).

For Developers

As a developer the Marketplace is the perfect outlet for your code skills, and a great way to make some extra revenue on the side. If you would like more information on how you can get your add-on on the Marketplace please contact us!

For Clients

You can buy the items available on the Marketplace with the assurance that it has been rigorously tested to meet our standards and to ensure 99.9% compatibility.

Currently we have an add-on called the WP Auctions Extended Listing available for sale. The add-on gives you a widget that you can drop in any widget ready area and helps to show your auctions with a variety of information.

As usual we value user feedback so please let us know in the comments what type of features you would like to see “added on” to WP Auctions and we’ll put it on our list.
