If you’re looking to translate the plugin into your respective language, here’s how you can do it. First of all, you need a plugin called Codestyling Localisation. Once you activate it, it adds a new menu item under Tools in your administration section. Click on this shows all the plugins you have that support localisation. You’ll see WP Auctions in the list together with any translation files (.po files) you already have.

If you want to translate the plugin into a new language, just click “Add New Language”. You’ll be shown a popup that lets you select a language:

Click on the language you’d like to create a translation for. The plugin will create the translation file for you, scan the plugin for any strings that you can translate and present a list for you to add your translations to.

The plugin has one exceptional feature that I just wasn’t expecting. When you try entering a translation for a particular phrase, it also gives you the option to get an automatic translation using the Google Translation services. Obviously, try and stick to languages you are familiar with; as machine translations can usually result in quite bizarre translations. But it’s an interesting feature.

Once you’ve prepared a translation file for a particular language; please get in touch. We’d love to include your work in future versions of the plugin so that other users can make use of the plugin using the translation YOU created.

The auction comes with a “Buy it Now” feature that can be used to sell items in the traditional direct way to your end user.

Configuration is as simple as setting the start price at 0, or leaving it blank and just filling in the Buy it Now price in the field provided.

You can now directly sell anything you like on your blog with this feature. Remember, you can also place it in your post and show it off via the provided sidebar widget.

As for the new features, here’s the full list:

• Auctions in a post or page – This is one of the biggest improvements we’ve made in the plugin and one we’re really excited about for the future.
• Register to bid – A lot of people wanted to restrict auctions to trusted folk, so we implemented this feature for you.
• Alternative payment options – Don’t want to accept PayPal? You can now provide bank details or your address for wire transfers or cheques respectively.
• 9 currency options – The plugin now supports showing USD, GBP, JPY, EUR, AUD, CAD, NZD, CHF and SGD.
• Choose the number of “Other Auctions” to show in the sidebar widget – You can show just one or all of them. Previously it would just show 3.
• New improved image uploader – No more image hosting with ImageShack. You can now upload them to your own blog.
• We’re using jQuery! – Our previous popup used the Prototype JavaScript framework. This caused a lot of nightmares and down right incompatibility with a LOT of themes. That issue is now a thing of the past.
• Shipping Price – Assign a shipping price to your auction and if you are using PayPal it automatically adds it to the total. A very highly requested feature that we’re happy to have integrated.
• Many back end improvements and speed enhancements.

I’ve been thinking off a few ideas to make this plugin more than just a plugin and I tend to get very excited about them. But then I calm down and realize that rather than just implementing feature after feature, it’s better to have a steady product.

We’re not backed by venture capital, we have had good exposure on some good blogs {though I know we need more}, and downloads are always increasing. Most of all we’re not really thinking about making as much money as we can with this plugin. Because for the first time in my life I’m actually building something, props to my developer Owen Cutajar for being the rockstar that he is, that I feel like strongly about.

This is not some side-project, not a hobby, no this is my passion. How can I be passionate about auctions? Well, it’s not the auctions part I’m passionate about, it’s the building a product that will just rock! passion that I’m talking about.

So what are the plans going forward? Well, here’s a few things we’ve been thinking about -

• A theme optimized to hold auctions – How about an auctions optimized theme to host your auctions and help you sell more items? It’s in the works
