This version fixes a bug introduced if you upgrade to WordPress v.3.3+, and a small feature update.

Date/Time: The date/time feature stopped working in WordPress 3.3 because the built-in functions clashed with ours. We’ve updated our code to be compatible with the update.

Re-bidding: This scenario played out when a user placed a bid, in an auction embedded in a Post/Page, and instead of clicking the refresh icon they would just refresh the page. This caused multiple bids to be placed by the same person and would at times drive up their current bid, a particular problem when the “Proxy Bidding” setting was used.
The update now fixes the above scenario by stating a duplicate bid has been detected by the same user (in the context above) and will reject the re-bid. However, a user is still free to place an extra bid that exceeds their earlier Maximum Bid placed.

As always, we recommend you to upgrade via FTP. You can find more instructions for upgrading on our documentation.

Current Version: 4.1.3

Status: Non-critical for WordPress 3.2 and under, Critical for WordPress 3.3 and over.

We’ve had a member based subscription system for around 2 years now and it’s been doing quite well in terms of giving us a platform to easily serve plugin updates. A lot of you have even used it to renew your plugin license for which we’re very thankful.

But there’s quite a few of you looking to buy the plugin for a one off auction, or for a charitable cause and don’t want to pay the current single domain license cost. So we’ve come up with an Instant Download option that lets you get the latest version of the plugin immediately on paying via PayPal (all major credit cards supported).

The features are exactly the same as they are in all license options of the plugin. The only thing is it does not come with is free support or updates. The Instant Download price is $35.

What about support?

You can always upgrade yourself to get support by paying a discounted fee, which is shown on the plugins main dashboard on activation. If you choose to buy the plugin this way and come across an issue you can browse through our forums to see if there’s anything similar already posted, to help solve your issue.

We released v4.0 in June, 2011, at the time of publishing this post it is at v4.1.2, and so far this has been our most stable update. The few issues we’ve come across are almost always server based and/or requests for customization (which we don’t provide).

We’ll be monitoring the reaction to this download option and decide on its long term feasibility. So grab the plugin for this low price while you can!

Instant Download

We’ve just released WP Auctions v4.1.2. This is a small update that fixes a few nagging bugs we’ve come across. However, it’s not critical to upgrade immediately so you may do it when you have no auctions running.

Here’s what we fixed/added in this release:

Automatic removal of currency symbols (i.e $, € etc…) from the bidding field when a bid is placed.

Canceling the first bid from the admin screen will now reset the starting bid back to the original amount.

Ability to re-send the winning email to the winner in case of any unforeseen server/mail error.

List Widget update

If you are a Pro Plus user you will also find the latest edition of the List Widget in the main plugin zip file. Simply upload that on it’s own. A new feature of the widget is to sort auctions shown by date, current bid or in random order. More instructions here.

All “Pro” users who bought the List Widget in October, 2011 will get a free update. Please contact us from the form on this website to get it.

That’s all for now. More news and cool stuff coming up soon!

We’ve had a poll on our blog sidebar for over a month now which asked our users and visitors to vote for the features they want to see developed the most.

Here are the results.

So as you can see the top 2 voted features are next on our plate, as they take a combined 50% of the votes. The rest will be dealt with surely, but after we’ve tackled the top 2.

By the way, did you know that the last option on the poll, “Multi-Site Support”, is already a part of the plugin! Yes, we worked on it during the time the poll was active.

Well we’ve got a lot of work to do, catch you later!

WP Auctions Tip: Did you know that you can use a link to an image hosted anywhere on the web and paste it in the image URL input field while creating an auction. The image will be automatically resized to fit in the area within the popup, sidebar and the Auction in a Post preview.

We’re pleased to announce that WP Auctions 4.1 is now available for download from your member area on Weborithm Products!

What’s the latest and greatest with this update?

Well, most importantly there was a security issue that we patched up and we urge everyone using our plugin to upgrade as soon as possible. The best possible way without adjusting anything on your database would be to log in via FTP to your hosting account and upload the following files to the wp-content/plugins/wp-auctions/ folder -

/auction.php

/wp_aAdminjs.php

/wp_auctions.php

/wp_auctionsjs.php

/wpa_admin.php

/wpa_ajax.php

/wpa_constants.php

/wpa_resizer.php

If you don’t have any live auctions you should -

De-activate

Delete old plugin

Upload new zip file from Weborithm Products

Activate

You might need to change the permissions on your “files/” folder for your images to appear again. Please read our documentation for further information.

What’s New in 4.1

We’ve added one new feature and one enhancement in 4.1.

Multi-site – WP Auctions now supports multi-site installations! Yes, it was a long time coming but it’s finally here. You can now set up your own network of sites with WordPress and offer them the plugin as well! This will allow you or your site members to have multiple sites and be able to use the plugin independently on those sites as well. The possibilities are endless! We’ll be monitoring the usage behind this feature closely as we have a lot more in store for it.

Register to Bid Enhancement – Our register to bid feature is a very popular one so we decided to enhance it a bit. From now on whenever a user registers to bid and they come up to the bid window they cannot edit their Name or Email. This provides an extra layer of security to your bidding process to ensure that the person bidding is actually who they say they are. We hope it help you run more successful private auctions!

Multi-site Support

One word about support for multi-site installations. While the feature is available in the Pro and Pro Plus versions we can only provide support to you for a multi-site installation IF you are a Pro Plus customer. We hope we’ve made the distinction clear enough.

If you wish to upgrade from Pro to Pro Plus please look in your member area for details on how you can do that.

Of course, as a Pro user, you are completely free to use it on a multi-site installation, we just can’t provide support for troubleshooting, server setting issues you may face etc…As each and every multi-site installation is different we need to take this step to make sure we provide the best service possible.

This does not discount any genuine bugs that may show themselves. Those will be dealt with without fail.

We thank you for understanding our policy on support for this feature.

Well, that’s all for now. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment or ask us on our forum.
