• Timer Countdown: This is an enhancement to the “Auction in a Post” feature that allows you to embed auctions into a Post or Page. You can choose to show either the end time as is (the default setting), a countdown timer X minutes before the end of the auction, or show the timer throughout the auction. So if you want to show it 60 minutes before it will show 60 minutes before. Of course, once the timer runs out and someone feels like placing a bid it will not get accepted. As a reminder, the countdown is ONLY visible when an auction is embedded in a Post/Page.
• Time Extension: Now you can choose to extend the end time of an auction by a desired amount minutes if a bid is placed within a certain time frame. Confused? Not too worry, it’s quite simple. If a bid is placed within X minutes of the auction end time, it will extend the auction end time by Y minutes. You can set both X and Y. This will stop auction sniping in the last few minutes and is a very handy feature when it comes to increasing the final value your item could sell for.
• Translation Ready: We’ve been sloppy about this in the past and we admit it. So we took the time to really, really go through every single piece of text and make it compatible for translation. If you are using the plugin in your native language please let us know how we did!

You can use the themes on an unlimited amount of projects and get free updates as and when we release them.

• Date/Time: The date/time feature stopped working in WordPress 3.3 because the built-in functions clashed with ours. We’ve updated our code to be compatible with the update.
• Re-bidding: This scenario played out when a user placed a bid, in an auction embedded in a Post/Page, and instead of clicking the refresh icon they would just refresh the page. This caused multiple bids to be placed by the same person and would at times drive up their current bid, a particular problem when the “Proxy Bidding” setting was used.
  The update now fixes the above scenario by stating a duplicate bid has been detected by the same user (in the context above) and will reject the re-bid. However, a user is still free to place an extra bid that exceeds their earlier Maximum Bid placed.

But there’s quite a few of you looking to buy the plugin for a one off auction, or for a charitable cause and don’t want to pay the current single domain license cost. We released v4.0 in June, 2011, at the time of publishing this post it is at v4.1.2, and so far this has been our most stable update. The few issues we’ve come across are almost always server based and/or requests for customization (which we don’t provide).

Here’s what we fixed/added in this release:

• Automatic removal of currency symbols (i.e $, € etc…) from the bidding field when a bid is placed.
• Canceling the first bid from the admin screen will now reset the starting bid back to the original amount.
• Ability to re-send the winning email to the winner in case of any unforeseen server/mail error.

List Widget update

If you are a Pro Plus user you will also find the latest edition of the List Widget in the main plugin zip file. Simply upload that on it’s own. A new feature of the widget is to sort auctions shown by date, current bid or in random order. More instructions here.

WP Auctions Tip: Did you know that you can use a link to an image hosted anywhere on the web and paste it in the image URL input field while creating an auction. The image will be automatically resized to fit in the area within the popup, sidebar and the Auction in a Post preview.

What’s the latest and greatest with this update?

Well, most importantly there was a security issue that we patched up and we urge everyone using our plugin to upgrade as soon as possible. The best possible way without adjusting anything on your database would be to log in via FTP to your hosting account and upload the following files to the wp-content/plugins/wp-auctions/ folder -

If you don’t have any live auctions you should -

1. De-activate
2. Delete old plugin
3. Upload new zip file from Weborithm Products
4. Activate

You might need to change the permissions on your “files/” folder for your images to appear again. Please read our documentation for further information.

What’s New in 4.1

We’ve added one new feature and one enhancement in 4.1.

1. Multi-site – WP Auctions now supports multi-site installations! Yes, it was a long time coming but it’s finally here. You can now set up your own network of sites with WordPress and offer them the plugin as well! This will allow you or your site members to have multiple sites and be able to use the plugin independently on those sites as well. The possibilities are endless! We’ll be monitoring the usage behind this feature closely as we have a lot more in store for it.
2. Register to Bid Enhancement – Our register to bid feature is a very popular one so we decided to enhance it a bit. From now on whenever a user registers to bid and they come up to the bid window they cannot edit their Name or Email. This provides an extra layer of security to your bidding process to ensure that the person bidding is actually who they say they are. We hope it help you run more successful private auctions!

Multi-site Support

One word about support for multi-site installations. While the feature is available in the Pro and Pro Plus versions we can only provide support to you for a multi-site installation IF you are a Pro Plus customer. We hope we’ve made the distinction clear enough.

If you wish to upgrade from Pro to Pro Plus please look in your member area for details on how you can do that.

Of course, as a Pro user, you are completely free to use it on a multi-site installation, we just can’t provide support for troubleshooting, server setting issues you may face etc…As each and every multi-site installation is different we need to take this step to make sure we provide the best service possible.

This does not discount any genuine bugs that may show themselves. Those will be dealt with without fail.
